The Ross 45 Intake Vent (45IV) will help remove heat and moisture from your attic space when properly installed with Ross Exhaust Ventilation products on/around the ridge of your roof.
Please refer to the Ross Principles of Ventilation for the appropriate balanced system for intake and exhaust ventilation.
*It is the contractors’ responsibility to use the appropriate roofing underlayment for the region of install*
- The cut out opening of the roof decking will begin 6” up from the decking edge and 6” in from any intersecting roof wall or edge.
- Using a chalk line measure up 6” and snap a line. From this snap line measure up 1 ½” and snap a second line. Make sure the snap lines are 6” in from any intersecting wall or edge.
- From the 6” chalk line to the 7 ½” chalk line cut a slot, ensuring the saw gauge is set to cut only the decking and not the rafters/trusses. Remove the slot decking debris. Ensure that any attic insulation is not blocking the slot opening.
- Next install drip edge (Ross BP VDE) and the appropriate underlayment prior to installing the 45IV. You will need to remove the underlayment from the slot opening.
- Align the external baffle front edge of the 45IV with the edge of the roof. Ensure that the ventilation openings on the underside of the 45IV aligns with the slot opening.
- The 45IV has 16 molded in nailing holes. Using a minimum 2 ½” roofing nails, install the vent. Install the proceeding pieces of 45IV until the roof cut out slot has been covered.
- Ensure that the 45IV is installed 6” beyond the slot on both ends of the run. The 45IV has a molded in end cap so you need to have the end cap facing out on the end of each run.
- The 45IV has a shingle wall stop. The 45IV has 2 molded in indicators on top of the vent. The starter course should be nailed through the area stating “SHINGLE NAIL LINE”. The other indicator states “VENT OPENING – DO NOT NAIL”. Starter courses and first course shingles should avoid the “VENT OPENING-DO NOT NAIL” area.
- Proceed installation of shingles as normal.
